STAKEHOLDER INDUCTION WORKSHOP ON OPEN GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP.

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) wishes to announce that it will on Friday 18 August 2023 hold a ‘Stakeholder Induction Workshop’ on Open Government Partnership (OGP) at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe from 08:30am.

The Malawi Government launched its OGP National Action Plan (NAP) in June 2023, where the PPDA is tasked to lead the ‘Anti-Corruption’ Thematic area. Among other things, the NAP mandates the institutions listed under this thematic area to address governance challenges such as:

1. Institutionalize and operationalize (by collecting, publishing, verifying, and using) the Companies (Beneficial Ownership) Regulations, 2022 for beneficial ownership transparency for all legal entities in Malawi engaged in public procurement;

2. Issue of a public notice of and reiteration of compliance requirement for submission of list of beneficiaries by all registered companies;

3. Assess and verify reporting of compliance by registered companies to Companies (Beneficial Ownership) Regulations, 2022;

4. Bi-annual publication of list of compliant companies (Beneficial Ownership);

5. Legislative mapping of legal provisions supporting transparency of beneficial ownership, public procurement policies, regulations and processes, access to information and corrupt practices for development of public service announcement communication materials;

6. Review of whistle blowing and corrupt practices reporting and response mechanisms available within institutions such as ACB, Deloitte (anonymous tip-offs mechanism), Competition and Fair-Trading Commission and Office of the Ombudsman; and

Facilitate the development and revision of Public Procurement Guidelines This workshop will serve as a platform for Government officials, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other interested parties, to come together and understand the pivotal role they play in achieving success in ensuring that there is enhanced transparency in respective Government processes.
